ROD

Rod Godinez is the lead singer and guitar player for Stone Gato.

His musical influences stem from various styles and regions, particularly Merengue, Salsa, Rumba, and the sultry sounds of Central and South America.

His mother and his father educated his ear from the time he was born. Every time the family would sit at the dinner table, his parents would always play a record (no T.V. was allowed during this time). These records would range from Tchaikovsky's 1812 to Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick" to the Guatemalan Marimba.

It was in this house of music that Rod first dreamed of being a rock star. Rod names Mana', U2, and The Beatles as some of his rock 'n roll influences.

A veteran of the stage, Rod's career highlights include (but are not limited to):

  • Playing in front of 60,000 souls at the 2002 HFStival's main stage (RFK Stadium)

  • Playing in front of 30,000 souls at the 2002 HFStival's street stage (RFK Stadium)

  • Playing in front of 30,000 souls at the 2003 HFStival's street stage (RFK Stadium)

  • Playing in front of 40,000 souls in the summer of 2003 at Virginia Beach (Sharing the stage with The Goo Goo Dolls)

  • Selling out the 930 Club (Washington, D.C.) in the Spring of 2003.

A former national-level swimmer, Rod graduated from Albert Einstein HS (Kensington, MD) and played water polo for the University of Maryland at College Park. In 1999, he earned a degree in elementary education from this institution.

Combining his social and educational awareness/skills with his musical background, Rod plans to use music as a way to reach the masses and promote coexistence between the different racial and social backgrounds of today's society.
